Muizenberg is one of our favourite places on the planet. A smaller suburb of Cape Town itself, it sits away from the main city and is ruled by the ocean. Beautiful beaches, amazing surf and heaps of water-based fun is the order of the day, every day!

Your accommodation here couldn’t be in a better location. Stoked Backpackers boasts an amazing balcony overlooking the surf and just a 2-minute walk to the sandy beach in front of it! Table Mountain – If you’re heading to Cape Town then Table Mountain is one of the most famous attractions. This beautiful range dominates the skyline no matter where in the city you are, and the views from on top of it are incredible, taking in the entire coastline and the city that borders it.

Shark Cage Diving – If there was one thing the Epic Gap Year team were super keen to tick of their bucket lists when they got to South Africa, it was shark cage diving! Getting up close and personal with these beautiful creaturse was one of our Cape Town highlights. It’ll give you a new-found appreciation of these misunderstood marine animals…and a good adrenaline kick too!

Surf Lesson – You can’t come to Muizenberg without sampling the surf; we simply won’t let you! The beach here is a great place to take your first steps into the world of surfing and this half day lesson will definitely get you hooked! Scuba Diving – The oceans around Cape Town have some epic dive sites and the rare 7 gill cow shark calls this place home. They’re super inquisitive and if you’re already a qualified diver, hitting up shark alley is sure to be on your dive bucket list.

Skydiving – For those who love a serious kick on their trip there’s no better option that jumping out of a perfectly good plane! Seeing Cape Town from this unique angle with heaps of adrenaline pumping is an awesome addition to your trip!

Horse Riding – Fancy something at a more leisurely pace? Then why not enjoy a tranquil horse trek along the beach?

Paragliding – If you like the thought of seeing Cape Town from the air but don’t fancy jumping out of a plane, then paragliding is a beautiful way to get your fix. You’ll cruise on the updrafts, sit back and enjoy the extended views of the area

Overnight Safari – If you’re only in South Africa for a short time this overnight safari is a great option for ticking off one of Africa’s biggest attractions. You’ll go on the look out for the famous big 5, cruising around the bush. Just make sure you have a big memory card in your camera!

Snorkelling with Seals – Who doesn’t love seals? These playful creatures are heaps of fun to be around and sharing the water with them is a great experience—they’ll whiz around you and really get up close and personal. This is an experience you’ll never forget!

Winery Tour – South Africa is famed for its world class wine and this tour will allow you to sample over 20 different varieties, as well as learning some more about the history of the area. For wine buffs it’s a must, and for the rest of us it’s a great way to sample some new beverages and maybe get a little tipsy!
